“Batman Live” Tour Taking Flight
Warner Bros and DC Comics are in the early stages of creating a live-action Batman tour. The production is not looking to be the next big hit on Broadway and will also not play in theatres. The tour, tentatively called “Batman Live”, will be an arena-spectacle aimed at families and kids.
The show will feature numerous Batman villains, presumably including the Joker, the Penguin, and Poison Ivy. The script is being written by long-time animators Alan Burnett and Stan Berkowitz, but the plotline is being kept under wrap at this time.
There has been no time-line set for the tour, but there is speculation that it may coincide with the release of the next Batman movie in 2012.
A superhero themed live-action production has been difficult to pull off in the past. The Spiderman Broadway production has been met with all kinds of delays including increasing budgets and a revolving cast. Superman had a short run on Broadway in the 1960’s, but was met with less than stellar reviews.
