Cirque de Soleil to produce Michael Jackson show

Cirque de Soleil and the Michael Jackson estate have teamed up in order to create a Michael Jackson-themed Cirque de Soleil show.  The show will be a touring act, and is scheduled to debut in 2011.  The MGM Mirage group will be presenting a permanent Las Vegas show that is scheduled to open in 2012.

The show will feature songs from Michael Jackson and fans will “experience the excitement of a Michael Jackson concert.”  The Beatles Cirque show “Love” is one of the top producing shows in Vegas, and regularly sells out the theatre at the Mirage.  Cirque has also recently produced “Viva Elvis” which performs daily at the Aria Hotel and Casino.

The proceeds from the MJ Cirque show will be split amongst Cirque de Soleil and the Michael Jackson estate.  Both parties are also sharing the cost of the production of the new performance.

The singer’s mother, Katherine, said in a statement, “Our family is thrilled that Cirque du Soleil will pay tribute to my son in such an important way.”
