Roger Waters Rebuilds “The Wall”
It’s been almost 20 years since “The Wall” has been performed in it’s entirety by Roger Waters, but that’s just what’s going to happen late this summer as he embarks on a 35 stop North American tour (dates below and subject to change). It was last performed in 1990 to mark the 10th anniversary of the tearing down of the Berlin wall. The tour will begin at Air Canada Centre on September 15th in Toronto, and conclude at the Honda Center on December 13th in Anaheim California. Currently, only Philadelphia and Chicago have two nights scheduled, but all dates are subject to change.
Why perform the Pink Floyd masterpiece written by Waters now? Here’s what he said:
“30 years ago when I wrote “The Wall” I was a frightened young man… It took me a long time to get over my fears. Anyway, in the intervening years it has occurred to me that maybe the story of my fear and loss with its concomitant inevitable residue of ridicule, shame and punishment, provides an allegory for broader concerns: Nationalism, racism, sexism, religion, Whatever! All these issues and ‘isms are driven by the same fears that drove my young life.
This new production of The Wall is an attempt to draw some comparisons, to illuminate our current predicament, and is dedicated to all the innocent lost in the intervening years. “
There will be a presale held by lottery for members of the newly reworked RogerWaters.com. Anyone who registers at the site will be entered for a chance to participate in 5 presale events of their choosing. The public sale dates will be announced after the presale, but is slated for mid-May.
In order to limit scalping of presale tickets, they are non-refundable and non-transferable. His website also adds:
“When picking up your tickets from the venue, you may be required to present proof of identification such as a government-issued photo ID (such as a driver’s license), and the credit card used to purchase the tickets. We recommend you also present a copy of the order confirmation email as proof of purchase, in case there is any dispute at the venue. “
